BALLAD OF THE BUCKHORN
(Copyright 2005 Blake Rogers)
|
"In 1972 a poem entitled 'Buckhorn Ballad' was written by Marcia Neumeister. The song, 'Ballad OF the Buckhorn' was inspired by that poem with permission from Marietta's sister, Elizabeth Heatherington. The song is dedicated to all of my friends and family, living and deceased, who love, and have loved, the Buckhorn." |
As I travel the road to the place that I love
In dreams or when trying to pray
My full burdened heart grows lighter each mile
And the darkness turns soft into day
The darkness turns soft into day
Heaven's near in Buckhorn Valley
Heaven's near oh hear my song once again
Take me back to the Buckhorn Valley
Take me back to the place where I belong
The strength of the rocks rising high on each side
Is the balm that endures throughout time
The thrust of green pines reaching sure to the sky
Spells a message engraved on my mind
A message engraved on my mind
Heaven's near in Buckhorn Valley
Heaven's near oh hear my song once again
Take me back to the Buckhorn Valley
Take me back to the place where I belong
The stream sings a hymn of courage and hope
And the flowers have praises to give
The sweet shy young deer and the bright winged bird
Join the mandate that says you must live
The mandate that says you must live
Heaven's near in Buckhorn Valley
Heaven's near oh hear my song once again
Take me back to the Buckhorn Valley
Take me back to the place where I belong
From the dark of the canyon leaving shadows behind
I come to the meadows so broad
And look to the mountains on up to blue skies
Perhaps here my soul will find god
Perhaps here my soul will find god
Heaven's near in Buckhorn Valley
Heaven's near oh hear my song once again
Take me back to the Buckhorn Valley
Take me back to the place where I belong
Take me back to the Buckhorn Valley
Take me back to the place where I belong
