THEY COME IN DARKNESS
(Copyright 2005 Blake Rogers)

"Working with people who study and rehabilitate wild animals was the inspiration for 'Coyote Song' and 'They Come In Darkness'. I believe it is vital for all of us to learn more about wild animals and nature. Ignorance leads to misunderstanding and abuse." |
They come in darkness ~ an undeserved reputation precedes them
Many myths ~ much misinformation it follows them
Supposed carriers of disease ~ the result of lies through the centuries
Through this they will die ~ just the same as you and I
Delicate wings like the fingers of your hand
With fine silk spread between them
We fear them just because we do not understand
Though most have never truly seen them
They make their homes in dark places ~ in caves or among the rocks and trees
Sometimes they live near people ~ in buildings or under houses eaves
Because of fears from our childhood ~ we equate the darkness with evil
And so these timid creatures in our minds become monsters
Blind & blood-thirsty they prey on people
Delicate wings like the fingers of your hand
With fine silk spread between them
We fear them just because we do not understand
Though most have never truly seen them
The time has come for us to learn ~ throw away our childish fears
Wash away the filth, the filth of ignorance ~ gathered like dust for years and years
Step into the light of scientific information ~ do not pre-judge what you have not seen
A change of attitude like a new revelation
Take a closer look and you’ll know what I mean
Delicate wings like the fingers of your hand
With fine silk spread between them
No more fears for what we do not understand
We’ll take the time to truly see them
They come in darkness ~ they come in darkness
They come in darkness ~ they come in darkness
They come in darkness ~ they come in darkness
They come in darkness ~ they come in darkness
