I'VE GOT A FIDDLE

(Copyright 2005 Blake Rogers)

"The song 'I've Got A Fiddle' started as an expression of frustration, and turned into a story with a moral.  Hopefully, I will take my own advice."

I’ve got a fiddle, yes but I can’t play

I can pick guitar and sing songs for you all day

But I can’t make a pretty noise on that fiddle to save my life

I’ve got a fiddle, maybe I’ll give it to my wife

 (Guitar solo)

My daddy used to build wooden instruments with his hands

He made that fiddle from a pine tree that he cut from his land

It’s got a pretty nice sound, yes that’s what I’ve been told

Maybe I’ll learn to play that thing before I get old

 (Banjo solo)

 I’ve got a fiddle, yes but I can’t play

Nothing ventured, nothing gained that’s what they say

But every time I tune that thing and resin up the bow

It sounds sort of like fingernails on a chalkboard, don’t you know?

 (Dobro solo)

I’ve got a fiddle, Lord knows I love that sound

I took some lessons, then I laid that fiddle down

I just couldn’t find the time so I said what’s the use?

I know just what your thinking ~ hey, that’s a lame excuse

 (Fiddle solo)

I’ve got a moral, a moral to this song

Don’t pass up an opportunity when it comes along

Life is short so never let your chances slip away

Never put off ‘til tomorrow what you can fiddle with today

(All solo)

 I’ve got a fiddle ~ I’ve got a fiddle ~ I’ve got a fiddle ~ I’ve got a fiddle
