A Brief History...

Let Me Smoke Your Lips, Again
Outfiggy
2009

Senegal is home to some of the most innovative and talented musicians of Africa, boasting some of the best nightlife anywhere. The young artists are among the most respected, socially provocative leaders of the hip hop music scene today. Surrounded by world rhythms in his hometown of Thies, Senegal, Justin Faye was always trying to copy and imitate music. His Dad, Charles Faye, as his greatest influence would teach him singing techniques common to Marvin Gaye or Boys II Men. His parents would host Peace Corps trainees for three months at time who introduced Justin to many new artists and genres. Justin studied a music class in middle school but soon found formal lessons not to be for him. The guitar was self taught and then he started to tease the piano and play the djembe which is a West African percussion drum common in Senegal, Guinea and Mali. It wasn't until a visit to the 2001 Jazz Festival in Saint Louis, Senegal that a band was formed and Justin began writing his own songs. "That's were it all began. I picked up the guitar, my cousin Andre a.k.a (Gabson), Pape Coly a.k.a (Paco Riqueza) and I were singing, then people started to hear about us and the next day, we were offered room, food and pay and we were part of the Jazz Festival playing in side locations, like hotels and pubs. They didn't want us to leave. It was fun", smiles Justin. A year later their drummer Petit Joe joined them. His band back home, Out Figgy means "I wish you progress".

Their fans grew quickly and on April 4, 2004, Justin’s band was selected to appear on national TV for Radio et Television du Senegal for the prime time broadcast during the 44th Independence Day. They played on Top 5 R&B and Hip Hop on Radio Nostalgie with famous artists of Senegal. With two songs on the radio and a manager, Out Figgy was soon playing at Casino du Cap Vert and Just 4 U, two of the hottest thriving clubs of Dakar (the Capital of Senegal).  They say music captures the essence of a persons soul, Justin’s music is no exception. With a dream of releasing a CD and being known for the songs he has written, Justin left the potential of Senegal for the opportunity to move to the States for the fourth time to train in general Business and Management courses and improve his English.

Justin Faye has just released his first solo album, as a demo sent out to major label producers around the world.  The title song "Let Me Smoke Your Lips, Again" is a love song, an apology about leaving someone for so long and trying to come back again. "Soul Stirring” is a song he wrote talking about someone asking for help to quit drugs. “For All of Us” tells the story of refugees or people crossing their countries borders to seek help and better living conditions. “Peace and Freedom” is the story of unconscious teens that have left home and are being manipulated by evil people and systems. They realize their mistakes and want to return home to seek peace and freedom from this wrong direction in life. The album is a blend of African rhythms unlike anything people have experienced; new and unique. It is a fresh fusion of pop, reggae, R & B, hip hop and blues. This CD was created with Kevin Dennis, music producer, backup vocals by Colleen Buckert and Carmen Drimbe on violin and has been sent to major label producers around the world. Justin sings in five languages; French, English, Spanish and two Senegalese dialects; Wolof and Serere. The performances of this passionate artist captivate the listener with a distinct cultural energy in his own songs, a voice similar to many great alluring and enduring artists of our time and reminiscent of blues and jazz legends. Justin plays locally in Estes Park with local harmonica player Mark Pack at The Tiki Room, Mary’s Lake Lodge, Ed's Cantina, The Rock Inn and Performance Park.  He also plays every Thursday at The Tapestry Of Life Coffee House in Allenspark, CO.
