SNUFFY

I once knew a man and Snuffy was his name

He wasn’t too tall and the junkyard was his game

He didn’t change his clothes except for maybe once a week

Drove a Mercury four door with tobacco in his cheek

He drank warm beer like water ~ he packed a Colt forty -five

I’ve never seen a man take so many chances and still come out alive

Now down at the junkyard I always wondered why

He climbed them stacks of cars just like a human fly

If I ever needed anything for my old ‘53

I’d just talk to Snuffy and he’d get it for free

And I always said “Hey Snuffy, what can I do for you?”

"You’ve helped me out so many times I’d like to help you too"

But he’d just shake his head and said "Don’t worry about me"

I got the feeling all he wanted was company

Now one soggy spring day Snuffy came cruising by

In his hot rod Willys Jeep, you better believe that boy could fly

Said “Hey Blake, come on let’s go have some fun"

"We might even make some money before this day is done”

Cause there was all kinds of people in their fancy four wheeled drives

Getting stuck in spring mud holes just as sure as I’m alive

They’d ask us to pull ‘em out we’d say “Oh you bet we will"

 "But it’s gonna cost you a twenty dollar bill!”

(I always wanted to be a highway robber)

Some folks called him dirty, some folks called him dumb

Some folks called him dangerous ‘cause he always carried a gun

Well I just called him lonely yes that was plain to see

And I cried when he died ‘cause he was always a good friend to me

But he drank warm beer like water

Once I shot his Colt forty-five (only once)

I always said “Hey Snuffy don’t ya take so many chances”

I’d like to see you stay alive, ya know I would

I wish that boy was still alive (big finish)
