THE "SAM" YAGER MEMORIAL PAGE

1997 ~ 9/11/2010

This page is dedicated to the memory of "Sam", one of the friendliest dogs that ever lived.

Everybody's buddy!!

Sam was Greg Yager's dog since he was a little puppy.  He also later became Greg's daughter Adeline Yager's dog as well.  He was undoubtedly one of the friendliest dogs that we have ever known.  He was half Rottweiler and half Husky.  He was a big dog, and his size could be intimidating to some.  However, once you got to know him, it was very easy to realize that he was a gentle giant.  He had such a loving personality and mellow disposition that he became everybody's buddy.  Even when he wandered off (which he did often), and the police would pick him up, they would always let him ride in the front seat.  They loved him as well.  He never got into a hassle or fight with any dogs or people, and he would go out of his way to meet anyone that was near.  He loved to sit on your feet and lean against your body when you would pet him.  He loved to sit outside at the edge of our property and "guard" our house from any intruders, which he would quickly befriend.  He was very fortunate to live in the mountains his entire life, first in the Cuyamaca Mountains east of San Diego, CA, and then later in the Rocky Mountains in Estes Park, CO.  He was well acquainted with all of the different types of wildlife that lived around him, and even had one unfortunate bout with a female elk that was trying to protect her fawn from an unsuspecting Sam that happened to be wandering by.

Sam passed away in his sleep on Saturday morning September 9th, 2010.  He was 13 1/2 years old.  He was sleeping on the deck soaking up the sun in his favorite spot when he passed.  Adeline was the one who discovered that he had passed when she went out to give him a doggie treat.  She really misses him, as we all do, but she is a little trooper and is being very strong.  Eventually she will get a puppy to continue the legacy that Sam is leaving behind.

Sam will surely be missed by us all.  But his memory will live with us forever!
