Samantha ~ my yellow lab ~ she was a tough one when she was young, but turned out to be a very fun and active buddy to me.  I adopted her from the  Boulder Humane Society in early 2008.  She was almost 2 years old at the time.  She was classified as a "goofball" dog.  She loved to run and especially fetch the ball.  She was probably the best and fastest ball chasing dog that I have ever owned.  And she loved to swim.  Probably also the best swimmer that I have ever had.  I couldn't keep her out of the water.  But she was so hyper when she was young that some owners could not handle her.  By the time I adopted her, she had already been returned twice, and they were really hoping that someone would be able to handle her energy and keep her.  That someone turned out to be me!  It took a while, but she finally mellowed out enough and became avery fun and loving dog.  She did have a slight issue with other dogs, however, and we had to be careful with her when other dogs were around.  She often would try to be the "alpha" dog, and that would get her into small dog fights occasionally.  She craved affection and would try to dominate your attention when you tried to pet other dogs.

When I first got her, she became the companion to "Sandy", my late Golden Retriever, who had just recently lost her buddy "Maya", my black lab.  Sandy and Samantha got along great, two crazy fun loving retrievers.  So when Sandy finally passed away, I adopted "Donovan" as Samantha's new buddy.  Donovan is still with me.  Donovan will miss his sister Samantha, but I have adopted a new brother for Donovan, "Crosby", who is a Border Collie mix, and has a lot of energy and playfulness in him.  He has brought the youth back to Donovan, so I think they will be fine together.

Samantha, I will really miss you girl!  It won't be the same here without you.  I'll see you in our next life!
